Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has urged the Blues to secure the services of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, suggesting that his arrival could revitalise their Premier League title hopes.
Mikel expressed concerns over Chelsea’s reliance on Nicolas Jackson as their primary striker, pointing out that the team’s lack of firepower upfront is hindering their chances of competing with title favourites like Liverpool.
Chelsea’s form has faltered during the festive period, with the team failing to secure a win in their last four matches. This has left them 10 points behind league leaders Liverpool, who also have a game in hand. Jackson, despite scoring nine Premier League goals this season, has managed just one goal in his last six appearances, leading to criticism of his consistency.

Speaking on The Obi One Podcast, Mikel stressed the need for Chelsea to sign a proven goal scorer like Osimhen.
“We are creating chances, we are still playing well, we are still doing the right things, but we’re not clinical enough, we’re not scoring goals,” Mikel said.

He continued: “We’ve talked about getting another top, top striker who can win us difficult games. If Nicolas Jackson is not firing on all cylinders, you need someone else who can come in and score goals.
“Nicolas is not scoring enough. He puts himself in the right positions, but then he’s not finishing. He’s not a striker who’s going to get us to the top four or win us the Premier League title. For me, he’s more of a link-up player, good on the ball, but not scoring enough goals.”
Mikel believes Osimhen, who joined Galatasaray on loan from Napoli last summer, could transform Chelsea’s attack.
“If we had Victor Osimhen or even Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting, trust me, we’d still be competing for the Premier League,” Mikel said.
