Ibadan explosion: Rescue, evacuation continue as more bodies recovered

On Wednesday, further rescue and evacuation operations are ongoing at the explosion scene on Tuesday at Dejo Oyeleye Street, Bodija, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

On the ground were officials of the Red Cross, the Oyo State Emergency Management Agency, Department of State Services, Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and Amotekun operatives.

Many sympathisers had thronged the scene, discussing the incident and waiting for possible information on developments.

More bodies had been recovered on Wednesday morning from the rubbles of some of the buildings affected by the explosion.

A sniffer dog detected a man in the rubble, and the security agents quickly moved him to the hospital for medical attention.

Likewise, a boy who could not be identified was brought out dead while other victims were seen being rushed to the hospital.

Meanwhile, being a highbrow area where influential people reside, notable persons had been displaced due to an explosion that rocked the area on Tuesday.

A former deputy governor of Oyo State, Iyiola Oladokun, to the Late Governor Bola Ige, former Attorney General of the Federation, late Bola Ige and some staff members of the University of Ibadan, among other notable persons, were affected in the incident.

It was gathered that the explosion affected his storey building in the area, which caused him to move to another place with some family members.

His house is close to the building where the explosion occurred.
