Three killed in renewed Plateau attack

Despite curfew, killers overrun Plateau community

Three people were killed in renewed clashes in Maiyanga district of Bassa local government area of Plateau state on Monday.

BusinessDay gathered that the victims were waylaid and butchered by gunmen as they were returning from Kwall also in Bassa.

Danlami Dangu, a resident of Maiyanga community said that the incident occurred around 7 pm.

He said, “The people were killed at Maiyanga while returning from Kwall around 7 O’ clock on Monday evening. The killers used machete to avoid attracting the attention of men of the STF stationed in Maiyanga about two km from the location of the attack.”

He gave the names of the victims as
Bala Ruhuwie, Gawah Gudu and Na’ago (fnu).

BusinessDay also gathered that the efforts of the soldiers stationed in the area helped to avert a reprisal.

When contacted, Samson Zhakom, a major and the Spokesman of the special task force on security in Plateau, Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), said he was yet to be briefed by the sector commander.

He promised to get in touch with our correspondent as soon as he gets information on the incident, but as at the time of writing he was yet to do so.
