The Oyo State government has warned principals and teachers in public schools against the imposition of illegal fees on students as schools resumed in the state on Monday.
Salihu Adelabu, the commissioner for education, science, and technology, gave the warning during school visits to monitor students’ resumption, insisting that primary and secondary schools are tuition-free in Oyo State.
Adelabu, who was accompanied by top officials of the ministry of education, charged teachers in the state to act professionally by bringing creativity and innovation into their teaching methods.
He urged parents who were yet to release their wards, to do so, as academic activities have begun in earnest, saying that keeping them back home will put them at a disadvantage among their colleagues.
The enthusiasm of the teachers and students is okay. Based on what I have seen, not less than 70 percent of our students resumed and almost 97 percent of the staff are in the schools today (Monday).
