Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen continued his impressive form, scoring twice to secure Galatasaray’s 3-2 victory over Samsunspor in the Turkish Super Lig, marking their fourth consecutive league win and cementing their position at the top of the table with 31 points.
Osimhen’s performance not only clinched the win but also set a historic milestone. He became the first player in a decade to score or assist in each of his first six Super Lig matches—a feat last achieved in the 2014/15 season.
His goal-scoring prowess has been instrumental to Galatasaray’s strong start, with eight goals in nine games propelling him to a key role in the team’s success.
Under coach Okan Buruk, Galatasaray has extended their unbeaten run across all competitions to 13 matches, demonstrating their strength domestically and in Europe.
Reflecting on the game, Buruk commended his team’s early lead and resilience, especially considering their recent Europa League match against Tottenham.
“Our strong start gave us an edge, but the toll from the Tottenham game was evident,” Buruk said, stressing the importance of staying focused in a demanding season.
Osimhen’s form has provided momentum to Galatasaray’s pursuit of domestic and European success. Turkish sports analyst Nihat Kahveci humorously noted Osimhen’s instinct for finding the net, joking,
“They should check his mask to see if it’s magnetic—he just attracts the ball.” Samsunspor coach Thomas Reis praised Osimhen’s skill, calling him “an exceptional player who makes the most of every opportunity,” while commending his team’s resilience despite some concerns over refereeing.
Galatasaray’s ambitions remain high as they aim for a fifth league title and a deep European campaign. With the international break approaching, they’ll look to return focused, ready to maintain their lead and undefeated record in a season poised for thrilling accomplishments.
