Manchester United have been dealt a significant setback with injuries to both new signing Leny Yoro, Danish striker Rasmus Hojlund and Marcus Rashford.
The trio suffered injuries during the Red Devils pre-season friendly matches against Arsenal last Saturday and Real Betis on Thursday.
Yoro, the 18-year-old defender who joined from Lille for a fee of up to £58.9m, will be sidelined for three months after suffering a foot injury. The young Frenchman was forced off in the first half against Arsenal and was later seen using crutches and wearing a protective boot. Despite the injury, Yoro has opted to remain with the team on their U.S. tour for further assessment.
Hojlund, United’s summer signing from Atalanta, will miss six weeks with a hamstring injury. The Danish striker scored against Arsenal but was substituted shortly after due to the problem. His absence will be a major blow to Erik ten Hag’s side as they prepare for the new Premier League season.
United’s injury woes continued during their 3-2 victory over Real Betis on Thursday. Marcus Rashford was forced off with an ankle injury, while Antony was substituted due to a hand problem. Both players were deemed to have sustained precautionary substitutions by goalkeeper Tom Heaton.
With Yoro out until the end of October, he will miss crucial Premier League matches against Liverpool, Tottenham, and Aston Villa, as well as the start of United’s Europa League and Carabao Cup campaigns. Hojlund’s absence will extend until after the September international break, ruling him out of the highly anticipated clash against Liverpool at Old Trafford.
Yoro is expected to return by the end of October and will miss nine Premier League games, including fixtures against Liverpool, Tottenham, and Aston Villa, as well as the start of United’s Europa League and Carabao Cup campaigns. Yoro will undergo further tests upon his return to the UK to determine the precise extent of his injury, he will stay with the United squad for the remainder of their U.S. tour, which concludes against Liverpool in Columbia, South Carolina, on Saturday.
Hojlund, who suffered a hamstring problem, will be sidelined until after the September international break, meaning he will miss the Liverpool game at Old Trafford on 1 September.
These injuries have placed significant pressure on United’s squad depth and could prompt the club to explore the transfer market for reinforcements.
