Manchester City will demand at least £60 million plus add-ons for Julian Alvarez. The 24-year-old forward, who has spent two seasons at City, scored 19 goals for Pep Guardiola’s side last term, contributing to their historic fourth consecutive Premier League title.
Alvarez made 54 appearances in all competitions and was the eighth-highest outfield City player in terms of minutes played across the season. However, The Athletic reports that the Argentina international is seeking more playing time and is looking to leave during the summer transfer window.
Man City reportedly will not stand in Alvarez’s way but are insisting on a £60 million transfer fee, with an additional £17 million in potential add-ons.
The report also suggests that Alvarez and his family would prefer to live in a warmer climate than Manchester.
Atletico Madrid has shown interest in signing Alvarez this summer but is unwilling to meet City’s asking price. Additionally, Alvarez may have the option to remain in the Premier League, as reports from Argentina last month indicated that Chelsea was considering a move.
Arsenal has also been linked with Alvarez, with Mikel Arteta keen to add a versatile attacking player to his squad after finishing second behind City in the Premier League last season.
Alvarez made five appearances for Argentina in their successful Copa America campaign this summer and is currently representing the national side at the Olympics in Paris.
He will be granted an extended break and is set to miss the start of the new season with City, who play Manchester United in the Community Shield on August 10 before travelling to Chelsea for their Premier League opener on August 18.
When asked about his situation at City last month, Alvarez told ESPN, “A lot is being said about my future but I’m calm. I’m comfortable and happy at Manchester City. We’ll see what happens.”
