According to football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano Chelsea is in advanced negotiations to sign Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca as a successor to Mauricio Pochettino.
The Italian manager, known for his tactical acumen and success in managing players like Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi, is poised to accept either a two-year contract with an option for an additional year or a straight three-year deal.
Chelsea identified Maresca as their top choice to replace Pochettino and have formally requested Leicester’s permission to discuss terms with the 44-year-old coach.
An appointment could be finalized within the next few days which is expected to be around £10 million.
Maresca led Leicester back to the Premier League just a year after their relegation to the second division, impressing with his performance in the EFL Championship.
His achievements have caught the attention of Chelsea’s management, who are eager to bring him on board.
“Understand Chelsea and Enzo Maresca are set to agree on contract terms,” Romano said on his X account.
“Two year deal with option for further season or three year deal, this is the final detail being clarified. Maresca already said yes to the Chelsea project, up to the clubs now to agree on compensation.”
If Maresca’s appointment is confirmed, he will sign a contract longer than the two-year deal Pochettino accepted last summer before his mutual departure from the club last week.
This move marks Chelsea’s commitment to stabilising their managerial position and building on Maresca’s tactical expertise to regain their competitive edge in the Premier League.
