Paris Saint-Germain’s (PSG) attempt to sign Nigerian winger Ademola Lookman has hit a roadblock. PSG’s initial offer of €30 million fell short of Atalanta’s valuation for the 2024 African Player of the Year frontrunner, according to reports.

Atalanta are demanding a significantly higher price tag, with estimates ranging from €45-50 million. a sharp increase driven by his stellar performances in the latter part of the season, including a match-winning hat-trick that clinched Atalanta’s UEFA Europa League cup.

According to Tutto Atalanta, PSG’s initial offer of €30 million was swiftly dismissed by the Serie A club.

“Atalanta does not have a figure to sell Ademola Lookman,” noted the Italian publication. “The Nigerian striker, who scored a hat-trick in the Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen, was left out of the matchday squad against Lecce at his request amid transfer rumours linking him to PSG. The verbal offer was deemed unacceptable for Atalanta, especially as Lookman’s valuation has skyrocketed to between €50-60 million following his recent performances.”

Atalanta reportedly have no immediate plans to sell Lookman unless a substantial offer comes. Instead, they are focused on building around their star forward, potentially adding another key player to the attack.

Earlier in the year, Lookman’s market value hovered around €20-25 million. However, his recent form, including his Europa League heroics, has seen his price tag rise considerably. For PSG to secure the Super Eagles winger, they significantly raise their offer, though Atalanta appears determined to retain their prized asset.

The Italian club seems determined to hold onto their prized asset. Reports suggest they have no intention of selling Lookman unless an irresistible offer emerges. Their current goal appears to be building around Lookman, potentially adding another attacking piece to the puzzle.

The ball is now in PSG’s court as they decide whether to meet Atalanta’s demands or explore alternative options in the transfer market, particularly as they seek a replacement for the injured Gonçalo Ramos.
