The Nigeria Police Force has apprehended Bello Mohammed, a 28-year-old suspected kidnapper from Zamfara State, accused of heinous crimes, including the killing of Nabeeha, a victim kidnapped with her family in Bwari, FCT, Abuja.
Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Spokesperson, revealed that the arrest was made by operatives of the Tafa Division in Kaduna State, acting on intelligence.
The suspect was captured in a raid on a hotel in the Tafa area of Kaduna, where he was found in possession of N2.25 million believed to be proceeds from ransoms collected from kidnapping victims in the region.*
During interrogation, Bello confessed to being part of a kidnapping gang responsible for abducting the family members of Ariyo in Bwari, a Barrister on January 2, 2024.
The suspect also admitted to the killing of several victims, including Nabeeha, in a kidnappers’ camp in Kaduna State on January 13, 2024.
In a dramatic turn of events, the suspect attempted to bribe the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) with N1,000,000, an offer that was promptly rejected as the DPO remained steadfast in carrying out his duty diligently, according to Adejobi.
Kayode Egbetokun, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has ordered that Bello Mohammed be handed over to the Department of Force Intelligence Tactical Teams (DFI-IRT) in Abuja for discreet investigations.
The suspect, who implicated five already neutralized bandits led by Mai Gemu (aka Godara), is expected to provide crucial information leading to the arrest of all others involved in the heinous act.
The dismantling of the suspects’ camp has been confirmed, with the suspect actively cooperating with ongoing police investigations.
Commending the commitment and professionalism of Idris Ibrahim, DPO in the case, the IGP assured Nigerians that the Police would spare no effort in eradicating criminal activities and ensuring a more secure society.
