NMA suspends chairman in Kogi over financial infractions

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Kogi State Chapter, has suspended its Chairman, Olusola Baoku, for alleged constitutional, administrative and financial infringements.

David Ayemila, a former Chairman of NMA, while speaking at an emergency Congress held at the weekend, told Journalists that a Committee had been constituted to hold sway till August 11, 2024 when election that would produce a new State Executives would be conducted .

It was learnt that the Congress resolved to ensure there would be vacuum by empowering the Committee of Past Chairmen Chaired by Ayemila and Zubair Kabiru as Secretary, to take over the running of the Association till when a new election would be conducted and new officers would emerge.

Ayemila attributed the crisis that affected the Association to the way the suspended chairman handled the Association’s affairs.

“Our Committee was inaugurated today, July 13, 2024 to watch the activities of the Nigeria Medical Association until August 11 when a new leadership of the association would be elected”, Ayemila noted.

Ayemila stated that the decision for the dissolution of the former State Executive was as a result of their failure to manage the Association well and preventing avoidable challenges which the Association was subjected to, adding that, the only way out was to constitute the new interim Management Committee.

He blamed the inability of the disbanded State officers to organise meetings, hence, the decision to have a new organ that would steer the affairs of the Association was taken, just as he asked members to support and cooperate with the new Executive to discharge their assignment .

“The congress also empowered the Association of Past chairmen by transmitting all the powers of the State Officers Committee to the Committee of Past Chairmen.

“The Committee is to ensure that the medical and surgical outreach proposed for Okene holds, including a successful election and Annual General Meeting”, he added.

It will be recalled that seven members of the 2022 –2023 Executive resigned under Baoku following the crisis rocking the Association.
