The initiative, which is a boost to the several private-public initiatives targeted at keeping Lagos clean, aims to combat the growing challenges of waste mismanagement by strategically distributing waste bins across communities. This proactive measure seeks to curtail environmental degradation, promote cleanliness, and foster efficient recycling or disposal processes.

The event was attended by Toyin Oguntola, Director, Circular Economy Project, Waste Management Department, Lagos State Ministry of Environment; Yewande Obasa Adegbasa, Director, Sanitation Services, Lagos State Ministry of Environment; Venerable Adewuyi, Chairman, Alimosho LGA Community Development Areas; Chief Akeem, A.S., First Vice Chairman, Alimosho LGA Community Development Areas; and Adegoke A., Supervisor, Agriculture and Environment, Alimosho LGA.

Oguntola emphasised the imperative nature of waste management initiatives, stating, “The problem with our waste is a lot harder to ignore now. This initiative by SEEPCO will enhance well-being and contribute to environmental preservation. By engaging communities, encouraging sustainable procedures, and advocating a greener future, such programmes will set a standard for support in all facets of humanity.”

Effective waste management plays a pivotal role in cultivating healthy surroundings and curbing disease transmission.

Akeem lauded SEEPCO’s initiative, affirming, “Waste reduction helps minimise the creation of greenhouse gases for a sterile ecosystem. SEEPCO’s initiative will act as a boon for the community, encouraging environmental cleanliness through the distribution of waste bins. We are grateful to the company for putting up this brave effort.”

SEEPCO’s commitment and partnership with the Lagos State government demonstrate its unwavering commitment to a sustainable future where the environment and community well-being are prioritised.

Through initiatives like ‘Adopt a Waste Bin,’ SEEPCO aims to instill a culture of environmental consciousness and spearhead cost-effective waste management solutions, paving the way for a cleaner, greener tomorrow.
