Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has called on the Federal Government to contruct buffer dam in Dasin Hausa community in order to mitigate the effects of flood disaster in the state.
The call was made during a courtesy visit by the Director General of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mustafa Habib Ahmed and his team in the Government House.

Fintiri explained that the buffer Dam would help to contain the waters being released by Lagdo Dam in Cameroun annually which causes flood, affecting more than eight states in the country.
He stressed that constructing the project along the River Benue should be the priority of the FG and that the project would also boost agricultural activities in the country.
He told the NEMA delegation that the state planned to build two more new warehouses in addition to the one currently under construction inside the Government House, Yola.
On the recent incidence of looting of NEMA warehouse in Yola, Governor Fintiri said the government may consider charging to court the over 130 prosecuted offenders currently in detention.
He expressed gratitude to NEMA for its prompt response always on emergency situations in the state, assuring continued support to FG in the task of making the country great.
Also speaking, the DG of NEMA, Habib Ahmed, commiserated with the Government and people of Adamawa State over the loss of lives as a result of boat mishaps and flood in this year’s wet season.
He observed that some of the disasters like boat mishap are predictable and avoidable through enforcement of the use of lifejackets by passenger’s onboard.
Ahmed said NEMA is planning to partner with State Governments and other national and sub national actors to convene a national workshop on the mitigation of recurring incidences of boat accidents in the riverine communities.

He applauded the efforts of Adamawa State Government for being amongst the first to take disaster risk management to the grassroots through inauguration of Local Emergency Management Committees (LEMCs) for all the 21 Local Government Areas of the state.
