Wigwe University reinstates commitment to late founder’s dream

The board of trustees of Wigwe University has expressed its commitment to ensuring that the dreams and aspirations of Herbert Wigwe, the founder of the institution is fulfilled.

This was made known in a statement announcing the death of the university’s founder signed by Fabian Ajagwu, the chairman of the board of trustees at Wigwe University.

“It is with heavy hearts that the board of trustees of Wigwe University announces the tragic passing of our founder, Herbert Wigwe, who died alongside Dareen Wigwe, his wife, Chizi Wigwe, his son, and others on February 9, 2024 in a helicopter accident in the United States of America.

“We extend our deepest condolences to his children, parents, family and loved ones at this difficult time,” the statement read in part.

The board of trustees described late Wigwe as a visionary whose commitment to education as a catalyst for Africa’s future advancement was inspiring and unwavering.

“He believed fervently that education is the cornerstone of progress and transformation, and his vision for Wigwe University was rooted in the profound belief that it could change the course of history for the African continent.

“He envisioned Wigwe University as a crucible for nurturing future fearless leaders, innovators and entrepreneurs who would contribute significantly to Africa’s global standing.

“While we grieve the loss of Wigwe, his wife and son; we assure our stakeholders including prospective students, faculty and staff that Wigwe University remains committed to ensuring that his dreams and aspirations for the university are fulfilled.”

The institution’s management assured that the foundation their founder laid for the university is strong, and that they are resolute in their determination to honour his memory by continuing to build a world-class educational institution.

The board of trustees promised to work tirelessly to uphold the standards of academic excellence, innovation and societal impact that he envisioned.

“The torch he lit will guide us as we forge ahead, nurturing the next generation of fearless leaders and entrepreneurs who will undoubtedly leave an indelible mark on Africa and the world.

“May Herbert Wigwe’s visionary spirit inspire us all as we carry forward his dream for the betterment of Africa and humanity.”

Wigwe University has been designed to be the most exquisite university in Africa. The university situated in Isiokpo, Port Harcourt, the capital city of Rivers State was approved by the Nigerian University Commission in June 2023.
