Immediate past governor of Ondo state and Senatorial candidate of the Zenith Labour Party, Olusegun Mimiko on Monday said one of the reasons for contesting for senatorial election was to ensure the country was restructured.

Mimiko, who is contesting for senate in Ondo Central Senatorial District under the platform of the ZLP , said there was a need for the country to be restructured, saying he would join other senators to legislate on restructuring, if he was elected in the forthcoming election.

Addressing his supporters at the Akure City Hall, Akure at the flag off of his campaign, the former governor described the ZLP was a party created to change the life of the common man for good.

Mimiko also explained that he wanted to go to senate to repeat all he did for the people of the state in the area of legislation. He also stated that he would lobby other legislators to legislate on masses-oriented programmes.

He said, ” I know what I want to go and do in the senate, I will make sure I join the progressives in the senate to legislate on universal education, on restructuring and election finance bill.

” If you vote for me, I will be able to join hands with the progressives to legislate on access to free healthcare, free and quality education and micro credits for market men and women because I have done it before and I know it is achievable”

He however lamented that some political supporters were tearing his posters and that of other candidates of the ZLP in some places but he urged his supporters to be calm and not engage in violence, expressing assurance that all ZLP candidates in the state would win the forthcoming general elections.

The National Chairman of the party, Barrister Dan Inwuanyanwu urged the people of the state to vote for ZLP’s candidates. He said all the candidates of the party were people of impeccable characters who would not disappoint when they got to the state and National Assembly .

Represented by the state chairman of the party, Arch. Wale Gbakinro, the national chairman described Mimiko as a good person for the job saying he performed excellently as a state governor and would represent the state well if he was elected to the senate.
