The U.S. claimed the top spot on the medals table at the Paris 2024 Olympics, securing 40 gold medals and a total of 126 medals. Despite China also winning 40 golds, the U.S. clinched the overall victory due to a higher silver medal count (44 to 27).

The U.S. women’s basketball team clinched the final gold medal of the Games, solidifying their nation’s dominance. France finished in fifth place with 16 gold medals, marking their best Olympic performance in over a century.

While the U.S. and China dominated the top positions, African nations showcased impressive performances. Kenya led the continent with four gold, two silver, and five bronze medals, finishing 17th overall. Algeria followed in joint 39th place with two golds and one bronze.

South Africa secured a joint 44th position with six medals: one gold, three silvers, and two bronzes. Ethiopia was 47th with a total of four medals: one gold and three silvers. Egypt and Tunisia each finished with three medals, placing them in joint 52nd.

Botswana and Uganda were placed jointly at 55th, each with one gold and one silver. Morocco ranked 60th with one gold and one bronze. Côte d’Ivoire, Cape Verde, and Zambia each secured a bronze medal, placing them in joint 84th.

Nigeria, unfortunately, did not secure any medals at the Paris Olympics. The next Olympic Games are scheduled for 2028 in Los Angeles, U.S.
