Reports indicate that Thomas Tuchel is eyeing a sensational return to Chelsea as he prepares to depart Bayern Munich at the end of the season.
In February, it was revealed that the 50-year-old and Bayern had mutually agreed to part ways as part of a restructuring at the Allianz Arena.
Despite Bayern supporters petitioning to retain Tuchel, especially after their victory over Arsenal in the Champions League semi-finals, the German coach seems destined for a Premier League comeback.
With Xabi Alonso opting to stay at Bayer Leverkusen, Tuchel’s options appear to be opening up, with rumours suggesting he could either return to Chelsea or potentially take over from Erik ten Hag at Manchester United.
Tuchel previously took the reins at Stamford Bridge in January 2021, leading Chelsea to a Champions League triumph over Manchester City within six months.
He also clinched the Super Cup and Club World Cup titles and reached two FA Cup finals before his dismissal by Todd Boehly in September 2022.
The speculation of Tuchel’s return coincides with uncertainty surrounding current Chelsea coach Mauricio Pochettino, who has faced criticism in his debut season at the club. While Pochettino has overseen a late surge for European qualification, his future remains uncertain.
Rumours intensified in April with claims that Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Manchester United’s new majority owner, is a staunch admirer of Tuchel and has already engaged in discussions about a potential move to Old Trafford in the summer.
