Manchester United are reportedly preparing a €40m summer bid for Barcelona full-back Alejandro Balde, as Red Devils manager Rúben Amorim looks to reinforce his squad ahead of the new season.
According to Spanish outlet El Nacional, Amorim sees the 21-year-old Spanish international as a crucial addition to his system at Old Trafford.
“Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United is preparing 40 million to sign the Barcelona full-back in the summer. The full-back in question is Alejandro Balde,” as quoted by TeamTalk.
The Barcelona academy graduate is admired for his speed, attacking threat, and defensive solidity, qualities Amorim believes would make him a significant upgrade over current left-footed defenders Lisandro Martínez and Luke Shaw.
Despite being a regular starter under Hansi Flick and having a contract until 2028, Barcelona’s financial situation could force them to consider offers.
Reports suggest that a €40m bid from United might provide the Catalan club with a vital financial injection, helping them secure other key reinforcements.
Manchester United have already bolstered their defence with the signing of 20-year-old Danish left-back Patrick Dorgu from Lecce.
The €30m deal (plus potential €5m add-ons) sees Dorgu, who made 57 appearances for Lecce, arrive at Old Trafford amid injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.
With Arsenal and Liverpool opting for restraint in the market, United made late moves to strengthen their squad. As the title race intensifies, these new signings could prove pivotal in shaping the remainder of the season.
