Lagos fans thrilled at Premier League watch party

Football fans across Lagos gathered at the Landmark Event Centre for an electrifying Premier League watch party to watch Chelsea take on Manchester City, as well as Crystal Palace and Brentford.

The event offered fans a first-hand viewing experience, with Crystal Palace securing a historic victory over Brentford, marking their first win against the London rivals in nearly 50 years.

The match between Crystal Palace and Brentford was a rollercoaster of emotions. Brentford took the lead with Bryan Mbeumo’s first-half goal, only for Ethan Pinnock to inadvertently level the score with an own goal. Crystal Palace thought they had taken the lead when Eberechi Eze found the back of the net in the 26th minute, but the goal was disallowed due to a foul in the box. The decisive moment came when Yoane Wissa scored from close range, handing Brentford their first win of the new Premier League season.

Excitement reached new heights as fans eagerly anticipated the headline match of the day between Chelsea and Manchester City. The atmosphere was electric both inside the Landmark hall and outside as the two football giants faced off. Manchester City emerged victorious with a 2-0 win, courtesy of goals from Erling Haaland and Mateo Kovacic. Haaland’s goal marked his 91st for the club on his 100th appearance, while Chelsea’s new coach, Enzo Maresca, endured his first Premier League defeat.

Despite a strong effort from Chelsea, they struggled with finishing, leading to several missed opportunities. Nicholas Jackson managed to score, but the goal was disallowed by VAR for offside. Fans speculated that Chelsea’s finishing could improve with the addition of Victor Osimhen if the transfer rumour materializes.

The disappointment among Chelsea fans at the watch party was palpable, but the night continued with prize giveaways for those who correctly predicted the match scores. The event concluded with an after-party, featuring live match analysis from SuperSport presenters. The evening wrapped up with the airing of the BBNaija live eviction show, which saw Wanni X Handi’s dramatic reaction to Rhuthee’s eviction, along with the departures of Team Streeze, Mayor Frosh, Toby Forge, Team Flourish Rhuthee, and DJ Flo.
