…Canvasses votes for LP, urges voters to reject APC

Ahead of Saturday’s by-election into the Federal House of Representatives, Surulere Constituency I, in Lagos State, the National Chairman of Labour Party, Julius Abure, has called upon eligible voters in the constituency to vote for candidate of the party and reject the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), saying party has failed the nation.

Abure also tasked security personnel, particularly the Police, Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) and other stakeholders, to be above board by ensuring a free, fair and credible exercise during the by-election.

Meanwhile, the LP candidate, Adeola Adebanjo, has urged electorate to troop out in their large number and participate in the all-important exercise on Saturday, promising purposeful and vibrant representation if elected.

“Go out and give me your vote on Saturday, I can assure you of good representation and programs to alleviate your suffering, “Adebanjo said.

INEC has scheduled Saturday, February 3, 2024 for the conduct of run-offs, by-elections across Nigeria.

Abure and Adebanjo, made the remarks during the last campaign rally, which held Thursday night at the National Stadium, Surulere, with the state chairman of LP in Lagos, Dayo Ekong in attendance.

Abure, while also calling on electorate to troop out en-masse despite the intimidations, assured them that adequate security measures have been mobilised to ensure security of lives and property during the exercise.

He called on all stakeholders in the electoral process to ensure free, fair and credible Surulere House of Representatives by- elections devoid of bloodshed and all forms of electoral malpractices.

He warned that failure to vote is to allow the wrong candidates to occupy the position of leadership they did not deserve.

According to Abure,“We call on all stakeholders, politicians, security agencies, and the officials of INEC to ensure a peaceful atmosphere before, during and after the elections.

“Parties should avoid rigging, violence, vote buying, ballot box snatching and other electoral offences; our security operatives, especially the Police and the Army, must operate within the ambit of the law, giving every contestant a level playing field, while our youths should resist the temptation of being used to foment trouble.

“The performance of INEC should be better than the previous elections and we task them to ensure that the collation of results is free, fair transparent, and accessible to all stakeholders. It is high time we told the whole world that our democracy has come of age and get it right this time around.”

Adebanjo further urged the party supporters not to be discouraged by the economic downturn in the country, but come out en-masse and vote for the party in the quest for a better constituent and Nigeria, assuring that the mandate they gave the party during the 2023 presidential poll would be achieved on Saturday.

“We must continue the process of taking Lagos and taking Nigeria back for the people of Nigeria.

“I assure you Lagosians to come out with confidence because we have made plans for your safety and you will start to see those plans manifest.

“So, don’t be deterred, we must complete this mission, we have made independent arrangements and you are going to be safe,” LP candidate assured.
