Edo 2024: Agba, Airhiavbere storm APC secretariat to indicate interest

Clem Agba, the immediate past minister of Budget and National Planning at the weekend stormed the state secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to intimate the party’s executive of his intention to contest the 2024 governorship election.

BusinessDaySunday also reports that Charles Airhiavbere, a retired Major General and former executive director of Finance and Administration, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), was also at the secretariat to inform the state party’s leadership of his interest to run for the number one public office position.

The duo, who were both accompanied by a retinue of party supporters, friends, and political and business associates within and outside the three senatorial districts of the state, promised to build a new Edo State that would be the envy of comity of states if elected governor of the state on the platform of the party.

The aspirants, who are also banking on their antecedents while serving the state and country in different capacities, said that the state needed a governor who would rescue it from the shackles of bad governance.

Addressing the party leadership, Clem Agba said his administration would be anchored on Transforming our Rural and Urban Spaces Together (TRUST) as well as the “Edo Okpa Ma Khin” kindred spirit (simply means “Edo We Are One”).

He said, the decision to aspire for the governorship position was borne out of deep reflections and extensive consultations with his beloved family, distinguished leaders of the party, and a wide range of stakeholders across the state and country.

He opined that the disconnect between sub-national governments and the central government has further aggravated the multidimensional poverty among the people of the state

“Today, I stand before you filled with a sense of profound responsibility and unwavering commitment.

“I am honoured to formally announce my intention to contest for the APC gubernatorial ticket of our great state, Edo.

“Our daily challenges are evident. Our schools, hospitals, and roads, which were once symbols of progress, cry out for urgent renewal. We must not only restore these infrastructures but also elevate them to a standard befitting of our state’s aspirations. This is the path of development I believe in, and I am championing,” he said.

He, however, promised that his government would operate an open-door policy of governance, ensuring inclusivity and responsiveness.

He also promised to carry the aspirations of the people and re-engineer the state by creating a vibrant environment for success.

“I am committed to bringing forth innovative solutions and fostering collaboration for the benefit of all residents of our state,” he added.

On his part, Charles Airhiavbere said his government if given the party ticket and eventually elected as governor of the state at the election, would be anchored on Peace, Infrastructural Development and. Economic Prosperity.

Airhiavbere explained that his administration will among others implement policies that will stimulate job creation, encourage entrepreneurship, and support small businesses.

“By fostering a conducive environment for innovation and investment, we aim to boost economic growth and ensure that the benefits are shared equitably among all citizens.

“We are committed to creating opportunities for upward mobility, reducing income inequality, and providing access to quality education and healthcare for all.

“Our campaign is not just about promises, it is about building a better future together by prioritizing peace, infrastructure, and economic prosperity.

“We can create a society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. We invite all citizens to join us on this journey towards a more harmonious, prosperous and inclusive future for our state,” he said.
