We are creating hub to boost access to food — Lagos

Femi Hamzat, deputy governor of Lagos State

Femi Hamzat, deputy governor of Lagos State, has said the state is creating a food hub, the largest in West Africa, to improve access to food and boost food security.

Hamzat said this while representing Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos State, in a discussion themed ‘Governors in Conversation’ at BusinessDay’s CEO Forum 2024.

“We are creating a massive food hub, the largest food hub in West Africa, and that allows us to store food and have food security,” Hamzat said. “We can store rice, maize, beans, and it has a deal that allows businesses to operate right there.”

He stated that the establishment of the food hub is for Lagos to create an environment that will allow private individuals to run their businesses at the hub and create employment. “The number one thing for us is how do we make it easier for people to do business,” Hamzat said.

He stated, “For Lagos, I, the deputy governor working with my colleagues, look at how we can tweak our policy and make it easier for our businesses and also to make transportation easy.”
