Hunger protest has sent almost everyone in the city of Yola indoors, the streets deserted, shops closed and a handfull of protesters seen gathered at the Unity flyover, former police roundabout carrying placard with different inscriptions, chanting “hunger dey hunger dey”.

They are chanting songs of hopelessness, pain and disappointment in the government.

Danladi Dahiru one of the protesters said, all they are asking for is a fair governance that will make life bearable for the common man.

“This is nothing but a peaceful demonstration, we are not feeling the effects of dividends of democracy we are not in support of removal of fuel subsidy,” Dahiru said.

“The economy is bitting hard on us, I am a labourer and I earn 3000 daily but that isn’t enough for a meal.”

Another protester, Elizabeth Adamu, said some people approached her not to protest but she insisted.

” We were bribed not to protest but we refused, we are doing this for our generation and for the good of the country,” she said.
