SOHO, Aero Contractors, others partner to build Zamfara airport

Cross River raises N3.7b for Obudu Cargo Airport completion

SOHO Project Limited has joined forces with Aero Contractors, Avsatel Communications Limited and Rafali Nigeria for the construction of the Gusau Airport in Zamfara State.

“We are in discussion with the Zamfara State Government on the proposition to build the proposed Gusau Airport and as well partner organisations like Aero Contractor Airline to manage the airport, Avsatel Communications Limited for the aeronautical and metrological segment of the project, while Rafali Nigeria Limited handles the civil works segment of the project,” SOHO said in a letter seen by BusinessDay.

It said part of the plan for construction of the Gusau Airport is the plan to utilise the hangar to be built for the Aero business model of aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul for Aero’s Northern Nigeria operations.

SOHO expressed its intention to partner with Mainstreet Capital Limited to serve as a financial advisor for raising bonds when needed for the project’s commencement or completion.

“We would require your partnership and financial advisory in raising a bond for the Zamfara State Government when the need arises for either the commencement of this project or for the completion,” the company told Mainstreet Capital.

According to the Centre of Aviation, in April 2010, the Zamfara State government announced plans to invest 15 percent of the total $80 million for the proposed Gusau cargo airport, while the remaining funds will be invested by foreign and local firms, led by Malaysia’s MPK Group.

In July 2010, the Zamfara Government re-awarded a contract worth N10 billion ($67 million) for the construction of an international cargo airport in Gusau.

In August 2019, the then governor Bello Matawalle said Gusau Airport construction would commence that month. It said the airport project was being executed under a $1 billion public-private partnership with Afreximbank.
