Shaboozey’s ‘A Bar Song (Tipsy)’ has tied a Billboard record set by Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cryus’ ‘Old Town Road’ for the longest-running Number 1 hit in Billboard Hot 100 history.
‘A Bar Song’ is spending its 19th week on top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart and ties ‘Old Town Road’ as the longest-running Number 1 song in the chart’s 66-year history. Lil Nas X and Cyrus achieved this feat in 2019 winning the duo two Grammys for the collaboration.
Shaboozey’s song, which samples J-Kwon’s 2004 hit ‘Tipsy’, is also spending its 23rd week on top of Billboard’s Hot country songs chart. The song has been nominated for three Grammys, including Song of the Country Songs country song and best country solo performance.
Shaboozey’s other Grammy nominations include Best nBest Country Solo Performance performance for “Spaghetti,” one of his two collaborations on Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter. That album gave the 29-year-old a boost after it was released in March, and his streaming and social media numbers jumped to new heights. His song eventually replaced Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ‘Em” on the country charts, marking the first time that two consecutive Black artists held the No. 1 spot on the country charts in Billboard history.
‘A Bar Song (Tipsy)’ finished out last week with about 19.6 million streams, 8,000 song sales, and 69.5 million impressions on radio, according to Billboard. Meanwhile, Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga’s “Die With a Smile” once again held at Number 2, Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather” took third, Teddy Swims’ “Lose Control” took fourth, and Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” rounded out the Top 5.
Reflecting the surge that country music has enjoyed over the past several years, country songs (or country-adjacent if you don’t count “Old Town Road”) take up the top three slots for the longest-running Number Ones in Hot 100 history. Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night” topped the chart for 16 weeks last year.
