SERAs: IHS Nigeria recognised for commitment towards sustainable future

SERAS recognises Tingo Group for driving sustainable, innovative solutions in Africa  Amaka Anagor-Ewuzie     Tingo Group, a global Fintech and Agri-Fintech group of companies, has been awarded the esteemed title of ‘Outstanding New Entry’ at the 17th edition of the Sustainability, Enterprise, and Responsibility Awards (SERAS).  The Outstanding New Entry Award recognizes Tingo’s impactful initiatives and innovative approaches that have swiftly propelled the company into the forefront of the Nigerian economy.  It reinforces Tingo’s dedication to not only meeting but exceeding industry expectations, showcasing its significant impact on the industry landscape.  Dozy Mmobuosi, group chief executive officer of Tingo, said the award is a testament to the company’s impactful strides and commitment to innovation across businesses.  “In a relatively short period, we have made a substantial impact. We remain committed to driving innovation, sustainability, and impactful solutions across all facets of our operations,” he said.  He commended the organisers of the SERAS Africa for the recognition and show of confidence in the Tingo brand.  Edwin Obasogie, chief executive officer of Tingo Africa, said the brand have always strived to remain at the forefront of innovation and the award validates its efforts in implementing impactful initiatives that resonate with the company’s commitment to social responsibility and sustainability.  Neha Mehta, chief executive officer of Tingo Foods Plc, said “Tingo Foods is honored to be part of this year’s event and the Sera’s commitment to sustainability and the realisation of the Sustainable Development Goals. Mehta said the company remains steadfast in its mission to contribute meaningfully to societal development, sustainability, and innovation in the ever-evolving Nigerian Economy. IHS Nigeria, part of the IHS Holding Limited, was recently recognised at the 2023 Sustainability, Enterprise, and Responsibility Awards (SERAs) Africa CSR and Sustainability Awards for its commitment towards ensuring a sustainable future.

The awards received were ‘Most Responsible Organization’, ‘Best Company in Environmental Stewardship’, ‘Best Company in Circular Economy’, ‘Best Company in Workplace Practices’ and ‘CEO of the Year’ for Mohamad Darwish. All five awards were presented to IHS Nigeria at the 2023 SERAs.

“IHS Nigeria’s sustainability initiatives are designed to help further the UNSDGs and address specific community needs. Through targeted programs, we aim to deliver positive transformations in critical areas such as education, employment, and enhanced health and wellbeing,” Mohamad Darwish, CEO, IHS Nigeria, stated while receiving the awards.

According to him, IHS is dedicated to using its resources and partnerships to make real, long-lasting changes that support a sustainable future for Nigeria.

“We have delivered campaigns relating to a safer and cleaner environment, sought to increase community access to and awareness of renewable energy sources, focused on youth development and women’s empowerment, and supported the growth of the small and medium enterprise sector.”

Darwish stated further that responsible development is pivotal for mobile connectivity to truly thrive; hence, HIS is actively contributing to the vision of building a sustainable telecommunications ecosystem in Nigeria.

“Our partnership with the Telecommunications and Technology Sustainability Working Group (TTSWG), for instance, has enabled us to reach over 200,000 individuals through TTSWG initiatives, promoting sustainable practices that benefit both the ICT sector and the country as a whole,” he stated.

Highlighting other impactful sustainability initiatives led by IHS Nigeria, Darwish stated that, “Building sustainable connections and improving lives in emerging markets is at the core of our business”.
