Rema secures N4.8bn gig at Mukesh Ambani Indian billionaire son’s lavish wedding

Nigerian singer Rema is set to perform at the extravagant wedding of Anant Ambani, son of Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani. The wedding, taking place at the Jio World Centre in Bandra Kurla Centre (BKC), Mumbai, will see Anant marry his long-time girlfriend, Radhika Merchant.

As reported by the Hindustan Times, Rema has charged the couple N4.8bn ($3m) to perform his hit song ‘Calm Down’ at the event.

The Afrobeats sensation has already arrived in India, sharing a clip on his Instastory to confirm his presence. Mukesh Ambani, Asia’s richest man and one of the wealthiest individuals globally, is sparing no expense for his son’s wedding.

The event, estimated to cost over $600 million, marks the culmination of a series of opulent celebrations that the family has hosted since March. Adding to the grandeur, Justin Bieber was reportedly paid $10 million to perform at a private pre-wedding concert for the family last week.

The wedding guest list includes high-profile figures such as Kim Kardashian, former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, former US Secretary of State Tony Blair, and former Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

Rema has cemented his status in the African music industry, earning numerous awards and accolades. His global hit ‘Calm Down’ has achieved impressive streaming numbers and broken multiple records.

In April 2023, it became India’s second longest-charting African song at No. 1, and it recently won the 2024 ASCAP Pop Song of the Year award in London.
