The enforcement team of the Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS) on Sunday apprehended eight persons suspected to be illegal revenue collectors in Orogho community, Orhionmwon Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement issued by Courage Eboigbe, head, corporate communications, EIRS, the suspects were arrested following complaints received from residents who suspected that they were operating illegally.
Eboigbe said, following interrogation, the suspects could neither identify themselves as staff of the EIRS nor agents of the State.
He added that the suspected illegal revenue collectors have been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Edo State Police Command, for further investigation and subsequent arraignment in court.

“The Enforcement Team of the Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS) arrested eight (8) persons suspected to be involved in illegal revenue collection in Orogho Community, Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State.
“The suspects were arrested right at the spot where their nefarious activities are carried out. Items found on the eight suspects during the arrest were unaccounted sums of money,” he said.
