As part of its activities to mark Children’s Day, the International Association of Lions Club, District 404B2 gave out support materials to Bab-es-Salaam Orphanage Home, Lagos.
Themed: ‘Celebrating our Heritage’, the programme tagged ‘Lions Service Day for Children’ targeted the less privileged children in the society, with the aim to support them and provide their basic needs.
Speaking during the event at Bab-es-Salaam Orphanage Home, Ikeja Lagos, Ademola Adesoye, district governor, District 404 B2 Nigeria, Lions Club International said the programme is to celebrate children and bring joy to them.
“Our children are our future, our heritage and legacy. Every day, we realise that values are depreciating amongst our children. Most children already have a negative impression about the country and that is why District 404B2 Lions Club decided to show love to the children, so they understand that some Nigerians still show concern and believe in helping others and giving joy to people.

“There are some people in the society who are ready to offer their time, talent and treasure to serve humanity. Today is the National Children’s Day in Nigeria and that is why we choose today to celebrate the Lions Service for Children,” Adesoye said.
Speaking earlier, Folashade Ashafa, chairperson of the event said the District choose to have the event at Bab-es-Salaam Orphanage Home because the venue is about the only Muslim Orphanage Home she knew and in ensuring the district makes a difference, it choose to celebrate the children at Bab-es-Salaam.
Ashafa disclosed that the District prepared school bags loaded with a lot of goodies for the children and gave gifts to winners from quiz competitions, adding that the same celebration was held simultaneously in other Lions Districts across Nigeria.
“Children are our heritage. We should raise God-fearing children because the children are not ours, we are just care takers. My desire is for parents to raise their children well so that Nigeria would be a better place,” she said.
The district gave food items, educational materials, school bags, toiletries and cleaning items to the orphanage home.
