Vienna, Austria, has been named the world’s most liveable city for the third consecutive year in the Economist Intelligence Unit “The Global Liveability Index 2024”.

The city achieved perfect scores of 100 in stability, healthcare, education, and infrastructure but scored 93.5 in culture and environment due to a lack of major sporting events.

The EIU’s Liveability Index evaluates 173 cities worldwide on 30 indicators across five categories: stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure, to determine the overall comfort of living in these cities.

Copenhagen, Zurich, and Geneva are among the top ten, showing Western Europe’s strong performance. Melbourne, in fourth, is one of four Asia-Pacific cities in the top ten, with Calgary and Vancouver from Canada. Sydney and Melbourne slipped due to a housing shortfall, and Toronto dropped to 12th.
