businessday-icon

For the second time in 12 years, Bournvita brand produced by Cadbury Nigeria plc has received the endorsement of Nutrition Society of Nigeria as food drink rich in energy and essential micro-nutrients. After it was first endorsed in 2002, the management late last year with confidence of the contents of its brand approached the society for re-endorsement.

The objective of the re-authentication of the 50-year-old brand was apparently to reiterate the quality and assure the consumers and other stakeholders of the rich nature and the micro-nutrients in the brand which makes consumers healthy. “This is to give consumers the re-assurance of its rich nature. It reassures the consumers of its richness and manufactured in world-class factory,” Emil Moskofian, managing director of the company, said while collecting the certificate in Enugu, last week.

“Cadbury Nigeria is proud to have its flagship brand, Bournvita re-endorsed by the highest collection of nutrition experts in Nigeria. We dedicate this endorsement to the loyal consumers who have chosen Cadbury Bournvita and made it the leading food drink in Nigeria. We also thank our trading partners who have helped to ensure that Bournvita is consistently available in every city, town and village of Nigeria over the past five decades,” Moskofian said.

Assuring consumers that the Bournvita is made from rich and carefully selected Nigerian cocoa beans, Moskofian said the new stamp by NSN was really a noteworthy validation for Cadbury Bournvita to be the only food drink endorsed by the nutrition body, saying “we will continuously worked very hard to innovate to ensure we have a brand that is loved by Nigerian consumers.”

Speaking to the large audience comprising government officials from Enugu and Anambra states, trade partners, consumers and health workers at the Golden Royale Hotel, Enugu, Moskofian said Cadbury had always invested in product innovation and “we have always strive to ensure that Bournvita is best in class. The success that Cadbury Bournvita has made over the past 50 years is heartening, thanks to our loyal consumers, the collective support of all our stakeholders.”

Confirming the various content claims including B Complex of Bournvita, Ngozi Nnam, president, NSN, said “the decision to endorse Cadbury Bournvita was taken after a multi-step process including independent laboratory tests of the brand claims that lasted several months. Cadbury Bournvita is clearly a food drink that is rich in energy and essential micro-nutrients.”

Some of the officials present at the event include Nneka Ada Onyebuchi, wife of Enugu State deputy governor who encouraged other brands to emulate Bournvita. Others include Ikechuckwu Ikeako, health commissioner, Anambra State; Jude Akubilo, commissioner for trade and investment, Enugu State; Iheme Fidelia Ugwu, Enugu health commissioner, officials of NSN and NAFDAC.
