The Edo State Governor, Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to prioritising the health of the people of Edo State by repositioning primary health care centres (PHC) across the state.

The governor said this during the commissioning of the revamped Ekiadolor Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) in Ovia North East Local Government Area (LGA), in the course of his reelection campaign across the state.

The governor restated his commitment to quality primary health care and provision of affordable healthcare with the Edo Health Care Improvement Programme (Edo-HIP) and the Edo State Health Insurance Scheme.

“The state government has renovated not less 20 PHCs across the 18 local government areas of the state, which will be increased to about 57 PHCs across the state,” he said.

The old Ekiadolor PHC was first commissioned in 2003 but over the years became uninhabitable.

In 2019, under the administration of the present local government council chairman, Scott Osaze Ogbemudia, a new complex was built and equipped.

The Edo State Primary Health Care Development Agency (EDSPHCDA), an agency responsible for coordinating and monitoring activities of all PHCs in Edo State, worked in collaboration with Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) to donate and install a functional solar power system in the PHC.

The governor’s revitalisation initiative takes a wholistic approach in covering renovation of facilities, provision of modern equipment, supply of drugs, training and retraining of staff and digitalising health care services through information technology.
