Entrepreneurship Hack, Android for business and Opportunities for emerging startups in Nigeria dominate discussions at the Google Business Group Yaba Bizfest 2019

Bizfest 2019, a day conference, Organised by the Google Business Group Yaba, with Malta Guinness and Nestle as official beverage partners, Business Day as Media Partner, and a host of other partners, was worth the hype as the event attracted over 360 people with major startup owners in Yabacon Valley (a nickname for the tech startup cluster in Yaba).

One of the highlights of the event was the panel session where Adewale Yusuf of Techpoint.africa, Collins Mbakwe of Jackson Etti & Edu, Abasiama Idaresit of Wild Fusion, Kaosiso Anaekwe of Edubridge Consultants and Sarah Egwu of GidiMo shared insight on how startups can survive and thrive in an ecosystem like Nigeria. Moderated by Ayomide Ekerin, GBG Yaba Co-Lead, the panel session sparked an engaging conversation with Participants sharing their business challenges and panelists giving possible solutions most times drawing from their long years of experience in the Nigeria business landscape.

Leveraging Technology From Idea to Scale

The Keynote Speaker, Fola-Olatunji David, who is the Head of Startup Success at Google Nigeria, spoke about the role technology plays at each phase of startup growth, emphasizing that tech can help you build faster and can save your business at points of competition and challenges. Fola stated that startups have to build products that are market fit and can satisfy the market needs, leveraging on technology as an enabler. He ended his session with a call to
entrepreneurs and startup founders to “learn, build and measure as this is the only sequence that guarantees success”.


Android For Business

Odufuwa Segun, the founder of EventPrime, exposed the Bizfest attendees to ways they can leverage android as a disruptive tool for scaling. He talked about how emerging startups like Opay, Bolt have modelled their disruptive innovations around android and how the smart card reader machines of INEC used the Android operating system. “You should not ask for what android can do for your business, you should now be asking yourself when you will leverage this great business enabler called android” Segun elucidated.

Awesome Breakfast, Chilled Drinks, Delicious Lunch and Fun Game Time, GBG Yaba Bizfest, anchored by Mary Ogundimu was not all work as participants had a fun time during the game session. Also, Nestle, one of the official Beverage partners served participants Golden Morn for breakfast, while Malta Guinness presented swags to Bizfest speakers and drinks to attendees

Why Bizfest

The Lead, Google Business Group Yaba, Afolayan Daniel, at the end of the conference stated that Bizfest, a global initiative by Google was borne out of the need to help Startups owners and business professionals get informed on innovative tech trends and tools, developed by Google and other tech giants, and sometimes available for free, which can be explored for growth and sustainability. “We are building a platform where people in the startup ecosystem can learn from industry experts, connect and develop partnerships while being inspired with success stories of
community members.
