Kano DisCo calls for resolution with aggrieved customers, after court victory

Kano DisCo calls for resolution with aggrieved customers, after court victory

Kano Electricity Distribution (KEDCO) has appealed to the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) and other dissatisfied customers to seek a peaceful resolution of their disputes with the company.

In a statement made available to the Press in Kano, the DISCO called and pleaded with all its customers to show some understanding as it operates under strict regulations and promised to remain customer-centric at all times.

Following a court victory against MAN, the Nigeria Association of Small-Scale Industrialists (Kano State Chapter), Tofa Textile Limited, Dala Foods Nigeria Limited, Mama Sannu Industries Limited, BBY Super Sack Limited and Super Sack Limited, KEDCO is now calling for round-table discussions to reconcile differences.

These groups had taken KEDCO to court in May 2024, seeking to halt the implementation of the April 2024 Supplementary Order on Band A tariff increases.

However, the Federal High Court of Nigeria, Kano Judicial Division, ruled in favor of KEDCO on July 19, dismissing the case due to lack of merit.

Presiding Judge, Justice Amobeda resolved the plaintiffs’ questions regarding the credibility, validity, and legality of the tariff order in favor of KEDCO.

He affirmed that the April 2024 Supplementary Order was lawfully enacted in compliance with the Multi-year Tariff Order (MYTO) 2024 and the Electricity Act.

Amobeda also ruled that the plaintiffs failed to provide convincing evidence that Band A customers were unfairly treated compared to other categories.

He justified the higher charges for Band A customers due to their entitlement to more electricity supply.

KEDCO’s Board and Management reiterated their commitment to supporting manufacturers with improved supply and cost efficiencies within their franchise area.
