TechSheroes Rise Africa empowers young Africans with tech skills

In a recent virtual conference, TechSheroes Rise Africa brought together over 100 aspiring tech salespeople from across Africa and beyond.

The conference recently aimed to equip attendees with the skills needed to succeed in the exciting world of tech sales. Tech sales help people understand why a new computer or smartphone is perfect for them, explaining all the cool features and how it can make their lives easier.

“The conference highlighted the immense potential of technology sales as a vehicle for personal and national economic development in Africa,” said Jennifer Salau, convener of the conference and director of Technology Sales & Partnerships at Retention Concierge.

Salau further emphasised, “We are creating a vibrant ecosystem of young Africans who will actively shape the continent’s digital transformation journey through tech sales careers.”

The conference wasn’t just lectures. Ten attendees received an exciting boost. They were onboarded into an accelerator programme that offers coaching, access to partnerships with tech product companies, and more, to help them kickstart their own tech sales businesses.

Speakers like Scindia Balasingh, a World Economic Forum award winner, emphasised the importance of building a strong personal brand online, something like your digital reputation.

They shared other key skills needed for success, including clear communication, understanding business rules and contracts, and doing your research on the market you’re selling in.

“Likes and shares don’t matter until you build a brand personality that resonates with your target audience,” said Balasingh. This means creating an online presence that people interested in what you sell will find helpful and trustworthy.
