Offering standardised products our top priority – Forgo’s chief

Joseph Alex, chief executive officer, Forgo Battery Limited has declared that generally, the Nigerian economy is low, “yet as a company, we will continue to offer real value for money.”

Alex, stated while speaking shortly after he received Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme (MANCAP), certificates from the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) in Ilorin Kwara State.

He says “We are determined to make sure that our products get better and give more value than what consumers and users used to know.”

According to him, manufacturers contribute to the growth of the economy and keep the country running with productivity, adding that doing business in Nigeria has been a difficult one.

He, however, expressed hope that the economy will bounce back in the shortest time.

Alex, identified the influx of substandard products in Nigerian markets as one of the major challenges facing manufacturers, saying “Although SON is trying to curb it to some extent; the economy has not allowed people to buy what they deserve to have.

“We know it is very common for people to settle for inferior things when the economy looks weak, that is why we still have flourishing of substandard products in the market at least to meet the needs of the people who cannot afford the real thing.

“Another economic problem centres on people who wish to drive can no longer do that due to the cost of petroleum products and maintaining their vehicles but from our point of view, it always amounts to a shared waste because the product will not last.

Ayeni Oyebola, Kwara State Coordinator, SON noted that MANCAP is a mandatory products certification scheme put in place by SON to ensure that all locally manufactured products in the country conform to the relevant Nigerian Industrial Standards (NIS) and are presented for sale in the market or exported.

He lauded FORGO company for having demonstrated a high level of complaint for safety, and quality, promoting excellence, creativity and courage in meeting customer expectations.

Ayobami Popooala, also from SON said 17 Forgo products are revalidated as well as four new products having maintained the standard and passed a series of tests and inspections.

Earlier, Ibrahim Balogun the company General explained that Forgo battery as a major player in the automobile sector is not accidental, but the results of a continued improvement of their brand over the years to become renowned for value, after due tests, to ensure productive durability.

“We shall continually work with SON in line with industries, constant product improvements as we are working on achieving a minimum of three years battery life on our standard ranges and five years life on our premium ranges.

In their goodwill messages, Kwepa, Manpis investment, battery sellers and other stakeholders at the event affirmed that they have never had problems with the products, and no complaints from buyers. They charged the company to maintain the standard.
