NPFL: Will Enyimba walkover Heartland FC in epic oriental cracker?

It is often said that when two elephants fight, the grass suffers. It is certainly the Dan Anyiam stadium’s grass that will unveil the fireworks for three points in this weekend’s encounter between Heartland FC, and Enyimba International.

The Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) week 10 fixtures is promised to be a cracker as the two southeast football giants knock horns in what can best be described as an epic oriental encounter.

The People’s Elephant as Enyimba FC is popularly called by the fans will try to continue its impressive runs in the NPFL of recent after beating Lobi Stars and Bendel Insurance of Benin.

The defending champions will look forward to riding at the back of the Naze boys in their quest to climb out of the relegation-murky water to contend for the coveted trophy once again.

Enyimba, who are currently placed eight on the table with a match to play, hopes to add to the troubles of Heartland who recently hired Kennedy Boboye to takeover as the head coach of the club.

With six points in nine matches, having drawn six, lost three and unable to register a win, Heartland of Owerri is unenviable at the bottom of the NPFL log and unless miracles happen, the club is set for relegation.

Finidi George, head coach of Enyimba has rallied his boys to take the battle to Heartland to ensure they continue to close the gap with the table toppers. Should the Aba Elephants win at Owerri, they would have gained 16 points, leaving them a point behind Doma United with 17 points; however, Enyimba has an outstanding match to play.

Other hot fixtures of the week are Remo Stars taking on Doma United. The Ogun State football outfit will marshal out against the league toppers from Gombe State with nothing else in their minds but a maximum of three points.

The Daniel Ogunmodede boys are currently occupying the fourth position on the NPFL table with 15 points after eight matches; hence, a win over the Savannah Tigers will place them in a good position to return to the apex position.

Niger Tornadoes will also lock horns with Akwa United, while in what appears to be a battle of the stars; Lobi Stars of Makurdi will square it out with the volcanic Shooting Stars of Ibadan.

Sunshine Stars will host Sporting Lagos in a southwest derby; Abia Warriors will take on Rangers International of Enugu in another oriental derby.

It will be Kano Pillars against Bendel Insurance at Sanni Abacha stadium, while Ilorin, Kwara United will face Gombe United, Katsina United on the other hand will engage Bayelsa United in another battle of the uniteds.

There will definitely be a new league leader at the end of week 10 if Remo Stars overshadow the Savannah Tigers and clinch the three points and Enyimba march down Heartland at Owerri.
