Ijeoma Nwaogu, a 12- year-old JSS two student of Dominican College, Mafoluku, Lagos State, on Thursday advised other students and pupils to cultivate the habit of reading and writing books.
Nwaogu made the appeal at the public presentation of her book titled: “Adventures of Emily,’’ which she said was meant to promote reading culture and inspire students to write books also for their peers and adults.
In her address, Nwaogu said that she decided to write the book to inspire other children not to give up on their dreams.“I felt like giving up when I was writing this book but I thought that my harvest and reward would be great after its completion.“So, I advise other children not to give up on their dreams, be work hard working as your reward will be great after it.

“Never give up on your dreams, catch them while you are young as no one can take it away from you,’’ she said.

The author said that money that would be realised from the launch would be used for charity.
Also, the chairperson of the occasion, Ogechi Ekpe, encouraged young ones to discover their talents and build on them.

“There is a world beyond Physics, dancing and singing, be mindful of what you do.

“Discover your talents, identify what you want to do, use the internet to research into what you want to be and never give up,’’ Ekpe said.

The book reviewer, Mr Pelu Awofeso, said that the book was about adventures that address teacher-parents relationship, parents-children relationship and royalty.

Awofeso said that the 74-pagedbook was an improvement of her first publication entitled “The Lost Girl’’ which she wrote at age seven.

He advised the author to introduce African and Nigerian native cultures into her next books because that was what is in vogue and make them relevant to her immediate would-be readers.

The administrator of the school, Chidube Ubili, described the event as a day of self discovery and education proper.

The clergyman said that the school would adopt the book as a text to examine how much the students had learnt aspects of English.
Mrs Maryjane Nwaogu, the mother of the author said that the launch was to encourage her.

Nwaogu, also a writer as well as a publisher, said that she had written some books while she was young but did not have the opportunity of publishing them.

“It was after my university education that I started a publishing firm and that gave me the opportunity to assist my daughter in publishing her books,’’ she said.
