The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria will do battle against Ghana’s Black Starlets in the third-place playoff of the WAFU B U17 Championship at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on Tuesday.
The Golden Eaglets were defeated by Cote d’Ivoire’s Baby Elephants in the semi-finals, while the Black Starlets were overpowered by Burkina Faso’s Baby Etalons.
With the West African Football Union yet to confirm the number of teams advancing to the 2025 Africa U17 Cup of Nations from WAFU B, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, the General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has urged the Eaglets to treat the third-place match as a final.
“We are still awaiting clarity on the number of teams that will qualify for the U17 AFCON from this tournament. Some have said three teams, others four. Therefore, it is crucial that our boys give their all to secure third place,” Sanusi stated.
“The Black Starlets will not be easy opponents. They have the advantage of being the home side and will have fan support. But our boys have what it takes to win.”
The third-place match will kick off at 4 PM Nigeria time at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium. The final between Burkina Faso and Cote d’Ivoire will follow at 7 PM Nigeria time.
