Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets joined Burkina Faso at the top of Group B in the WAFU B U17 Championship after a narrow 1-0 victory over Niger Republic at the University of Accra Stadium on Sunday.
Rapha Adams’ powerful header in the 31st minute secured the win for Nigeria in a tightly contested match. Despite playing the final 27 minutes with 10 men after Chibuike Okorie received a red card, the Eaglets held on to their lead.
This victory elevates the five-time world champions to four points, equal with Burkina Faso, ahead of the final Group B matches on Wednesday.
The Eaglets will face Togo at the Accra Sports Stadium, while Burkina Faso will take on Niger Republic at the University of Accra Stadium.
A draw against Togo will ensure the Eaglets advance to the tournament’s semi-finals.
Eaglets captain Simon Cletus was named Player of the Match, repeating his accolade from the Day 1 match against Burkina Faso.
