Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli have reignited their pursuit of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, following an unsuccessful attempt to sign him last summer.
Multiple clubs including Al-Ahli are expected to revive their interest in the prolific goalscorer.
Recent comments from Al-Ahli head coach Matthias Jaissle have fueled speculation, as he praised Osimhen’s striking ability, hinting at the club’s continued admiration for the Napoli star.
According to reliable sources, Al-Ahli previously reached a tentative agreement with Napoli for a transfer fee of around €80 million and was prepared to offer Osimhen an annual salary of €30 million. However, the deal collapsed at the final stage, leading Osimhen to remain in Europe, where he ultimately joined Turkish giants Galatasaray.
Al-Ahli now appear ready to intensify their pursuit. Jaissle has openly expressed his admiration for the Nigerian forward, stating:
“Osimhen is a player I like very much. He is a first-class striker. He is still at the top level and can play in any team.”
Galatasaray had a €65 million bid for Osimhen rejected, with Napoli holding firm on a €75 million release clause, which presents a major obstacle for potential suitors. Additionally, the 26-year-old Nigerian forward is reportedly demanding a minimum annual salary of €15 million.
Galatasaray remains in a strong position to retain Osimhen, especially after securing UEFA Champions League qualification for next season. The prospect of playing at Europe’s highest level is expected to be a key factor in his decision-making.
While Al-Ahli is eager to formalise their interest, Osimhen’s preference for European football remains a significant hurdle. However, if top European clubs fail to meet his valuation, the financial strength of Saudi clubs could sway his decision.
Meanwhile, Juventus has also been linked with Osimhen, with club director Cristiano Giuntoli—who originally brought him to Italy from LOSC Lille—reportedly working behind the scenes to convince the striker to move to Turin.
