Embattled Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford reportedly still desires to play for the Red Devils, weeks after publicly declaring to leave his boyhood club.
Following his omission from December’s Manchester derby squad, Rashford shocked fans with the statement: “I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps.” The 27-year-old has since been absent from United’s plans, missing eight of the last nine matchday squads under manager Ruben Amorim.
While AC Milan, Juventus and Borussia Dortmund emerged as frontrunners for a potential loan deal, Rashford’s £325,000-a-week wages have complicated negotiations, leaving his January exit uncertain.
However, The Telegraph reports that Rashford remains “ready and willing” to play if called upon. The England international has reportedly been putting in extra training, including sessions at Carrington on days off, to prove his commitment to Amorim.
Although Rashford has not formally requested a transfer, his earlier comments indicated a readiness for a fresh challenge. Despite this, he could make a surprise return to the squad for Thursday’s Europa League clash against Rangers.
When questioned about Rashford after United’s 3-1 loss to Brighton, Amorim dismissed the idea of bringing the striker back into the fold, saying, “Rashford is out at this moment because he’s not playing. I’m not going to put in a player I don’t believe is the best for the team.”
Rashford’s future at Old Trafford remains unclear as the Red Devils continue to grapple with their disappointing form and uncertainty around squad cohesion.
