Newcastle join race for Osimhen as Napoli prepare summer sale

Newcastle United have reportedly rekindled their interest in Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, with Napoli prepared to accept offers for the 26-year-old this summer.

Osimhen, currently on loan at Galatasaray, is available for €75 million, and Newcastle are among several Premier League clubs monitoring his situation.

The Super Eagles forward has been in prolific form in Turkey, scoring 17 goals in 22 appearances as he aims to challenge his career-best tally of 31 goals from the 2022/23 season.

Newcastle, looking to bolster their attack alongside Alexander Isak, previously explored signing Osimhen, but pulled out of the negotiation due to Napoli’s hefty £113 million asking price last summer.

His wages, reportedly exceeding £200,000 per week at Napoli before dropping to £110,000 at Galatasaray, could still pose a financial challenge for the Magpies.

Despite Galatasaray’s interest in keeping him, the Turkish club cannot afford a permanent deal. With Napoli ready to part ways, Osimhen is expected to move on once his loan spell ends.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has hinted at the club’s desire to sign an “established” star, and Osimhen remains a top target. However, they face competition from Chelsea, Arsenal, and other Premier League clubs also eyeing the Nigerian forward.
