Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has challenged his team to get the maximum three points when they face Danish outfit FC Copenhagen in Tuesday’s Group A matchday three of the UEFA Champions League at Old Trafford to honour club and England legend Sir Bobby Charlton who died last Saturday.
Ten Hag’s Man United side remain bottom of Group A after failing to win two matches, while their visitors sit one point above the host.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Monday afternoon at Carrington, The Dutch tactician urged his players to use the difficult feeling of the death of Charlton to go for a win to pay another fitting tribute to the late legend with a positive result.
“I think it is always special every night in Old Trafford,” Erik added.

“The fans are always behind us and have a strong bond. In difficult moments, when there is adversity around Manchester United, the fans are still with us and we are with the fans. We are fighting together.
“After the passing away of Sir Bobby Charlton – their hero, their legend, a giant, I am sure that there will be even more [of a] very emotional evening night.
“He is in front of Old Trafford with Denis Law and with George Best [in the Trinity Statue] and he is always with us. They are always a huge inspiration for us every day, and so in every game.”
FC Copenhagen are currently at the top of the Danish Superliga standings and have been in impressive form so far this season. The away side edged Vejle BK to a 2-1 victory over the weekend and will need to work hard to achieve a similar result in this match.
United are in eighth place in the league table at the moment and have been poor this season. The Red Devils edged Sheffield United to a 2-1 victory in their previous game and will be confident ahead of this fixture.
The Red Devils have a slight edge over FC Copenhagen and have won two out of the three matches played between the two teams, as opposed to FC Copenhagen’s one victory.
