Reports from Spain revealed that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola and his wife, Cristina Serra, have decided to end their marriage after years together.
The separation, described as amicable, sees the couple remaining on good terms.
Despite the personal turmoil, Guardiola was seen wearing his wedding ring during Manchester City’s 2-2 draw against Brentford last night, a match in which City squandered a two-goal lead in the closing stages.
The breakup comes amidst a challenging period for the 53-year-old manager, whose team has struggled with form this season. Guardiola has appeared increasingly agitated on the sidelines, particularly during a poor run of just one win in 13 matches between late October and Boxing Day.
While it remains speculative whether the breakdown of his marriage influenced his erratic touchline behaviour, sources suggest that Guardiola’s unwavering dedication to his role played a significant part in the separation. A close friend of Guardiola, speaking to MailSport, explained:
“I think they have grown apart. She left Manchester about five years ago to return to Barcelona. That has taken its toll. He is a total workaholic, and not being involved in their family fashion business together may have affected their relationship too.”
Cristina Serra, who returned to Barcelona years ago, has been focusing on her career in the family’s fashion business, while Guardiola has continued his intense commitment to Manchester City.
