Justin Kluivert stole the show with a sensational hat-trick as Bournemouth stunned Newcastle United with a commanding 4-1 victory at St James’ Park, extending their unbeaten Premier League run to 10 matches while halting the Magpies’ nine-match winning streak.
Newcastle, chasing a club-record 10th consecutive win across all competitions, struggled to maintain the form that had them tipped as potential title contenders. Instead, they faced a confident Bournemouth side in peak form.
The Cherries started brightly and deservedly took the lead when Kluivert calmly finished Antoine Semenyo’s cutback into the far corner. Newcastle managed to equalize with their first clear opportunity, as Bruno Guimarães headed in Lewis Hall’s corner, despite goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga getting a hand to the effort.
However, Bournemouth quickly regained control. A misplaced pass by Guimarães near his own box allowed Kluivert to notch his second goal with another composed finish.
The visitors thought they had extended their lead when Dango Ouattara scored from close range, but VAR intervened, ruling that the ball had gone out of play during the build-up.
Undeterred, Bournemouth kept pressing, and Kluivert sealed his hat-trick in style, rifling a spectacular shot into the far corner after capitalizing on a sloppy pass by Anthony Gordon.
Milos Kerkez added a late flourish, unleashing a fierce left-footed strike into the far corner in added time, sparking wild celebrations among the 1,700 travelling Bournemouth fans.
The result leaves Bournemouth just one point behind fourth-placed Newcastle, with the Cherries poised to climb to sixth if Aston Villa fail to beat Arsenal in the late kick-off. For Eddie Howe’s Newcastle, the defeat marks a frustrating end to their historic winning streak.
