Bournemouth striker Enes Unal has suffered a tear to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee during a training session, the Premier League club confirmed on Wednesday.

The 27-year-old Turkey international, who joined Bournemouth on a permanent four-year deal from Getafe last summer after an initial loan spell, sustained the injury during a routine drill on Tuesday.

Unal, who has made 17 appearances and scored two goals this season, now faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines. This marks the second time in his career that he has endured an ACL injury, having previously suffered a similar setback while at Getafe during the 2023/24 season.

The club expressed its disappointment in a statement:
“We are devastated to confirm that Enes Unal has suffered a tear to his right anterior cruciate ligament during a training session this week.
“First and foremost, our thoughts are with Enes at this moment as he begins to process another significant period of rehabilitation ahead. He will undergo surgery to repair the ligament in the coming days, and the club’s medical and performance staff will support him in every way possible throughout.”

Unal’s absence adds to Bournemouth’s injury woes, with record signing Evanilson also sidelined after undergoing surgery for a broken foot. The pair’s unavailability poses a significant challenge to Bournemouth’s European ambitions, particularly as the Cherries are enjoying a historic season.

Last weekend’s 1-0 victory over Everton extended Bournemouth’s unbeaten Premier League run to eight games, a new club record. They are currently seventh in the table, just three points adrift of the top four.
