The Bayelsa State Government has said the renovation of the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa will soon be completed and ready for sporting activities.
A Government House statement on Friday quoted the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Jonathan Obuebite, as giving the assurance at the end of a football match between the Creek Haven All Stars and KOLGA All Stars.
Obuebite said very soon the stadium would come alive, hosting top leagues matches. He also noted that sports-loving Bayelsa state residents will “once again have a taste of first-class football games”.
He commended the state governor, Seriake Dickson, for approving and directing the release of funds to the contractor to return to site and carry out the renovation of the stadium.
“The football pitch will be ready very soon to enable Bayelsa United Football Club of Yenagoa to return to their fortress at the Samson Siasia Stadium.
“Governor Seriake Dickson has graciously approved and ordered the immediate release of funds for the completion of the Samson Siasia Stadium, which is 100 per cent natural infill Geo-technology lead-free synthetic grass pitch and full IAAF-approved athletics track.”
On his part, the contractor handling the job, Moni Michelle, also applauded the governor for giving his company the opportunity to be a part of history.
