Former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua is reportedly planning a return to the ring this summer as he seeks to re-launch his boxing career after his shocking defeat to Daniel Dubois in 2024.
Frank Smith, a prominent figure at Matchroom Boxing and a key player in Anthony Joshua‘s career, shared insights on the 35-year-old’s potential plans.
In September 2024, Anthony Joshua’s hopes of becoming a three-time heavyweight champion were dashed when Dubois stopped him in the fifth round. The defeat, which saw Joshua drop four times, raised doubts about his future in the sport.
Before the bout, Anthony Joshua appeared to have regained the fearsome form that made him a dominant force in boxing, but Dubois delivered a stunning performance to upset those expectations.
Talks of a long-awaited showdown with Tyson Fury have since fizzled, following Fury’s unexpected retirement announcement.
Speaking to BetFred, Smith shed light on the heavyweight landscape and Joshua’s likely return:
“There’s a lot of movement in the heavyweight division. You’ve got Daniel Dubois vs Joseph Parker on February 22, we’ve got to wait and see what Oleksandr Usyk does next, but I think you’ll see Anthony Joshua back out in the summer.”
As the heavyweight division continues to evolve, fans will be eager to see what lies ahead for Joshua in his bid to reclaim his position among the elite.
