Despite securing three points, Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has called for improvement after Red Devils struggled to get a scrappy 1-0 victory over Fulham on Sunday.
Lisandro Martinez’s deflected strike proved the difference, providing Amorim with only his fourth Premier League win in 12 matches in charge. The victory lift United to 12th in the Premier League table, 13 points clear of the relegation zone, but their performance continued to highlight persistent struggles under two different managers this season, even against lower-budget teams.
Amorim admitted, “Not a great game, and you can feel it, no great chances. We tried to control the game and play our way, but we need to improve a lot with the ball. Keeping a clean sheet is really important because it brings confidence. We didn’t suffer too much today, and that’s a good sign.”
Fulham started brightly, with Alex Iwobi forcing two early saves from Andre Onana, who returned to goal despite his recent error against Brighton. However, the game lacked intensity, with few clear chances for either side.
Martinez’s long-range effort, deflected in by Sasa Lukic, sealed the win, a moment Martinez called “lucky but important.” Fulham nearly equalised when Joachim Andersen’s header was cleared off the line by Toby Collyer.
Amad Diallo’s stoppage-time goal was ruled out for offside by VAR, leaving Fulham in 10th, seven points adrift of the top six, while United escaped further concerns of a relegation battle.
